"Marathons and Security Issues" is the main subject of the 7th AIMS Marathon Symposium to be held on November 9, 2013, on the eve of the 31th Athens Classic Marathon in the «Radisson Blu Park Hotel» (10 Alexandras Avenue).
More from 100 participants are expected to attend, coming from all around the world. From the Antarctica, up to the Virgin Islands, the New Zealand and the South Africa, the speakers and the rest of the participants will present and discuss various issues related with the main subject, aiming at offering useful ideas, and indicating solutions and practices to the Race Organizers and any involved authorities and organizations.
We should note in particular the presence of the Boston Marathon, that was affected by a terrorist attack a few months ago, the representatives of which will speak about their experiences. Joann Flaminio will be the Head of the Boston Marathon delegation and will also present during the Symposium.
George Chiampas, Director of Medical Services in the Chicago Marathon will also be one the main speakers, as well as Apostolos
Stavropoulos representative of Greek Police and in charge of the relevant section during the ATHENS 2004 Olympic Games, and Bep Sole, Director of Route of the Barcelona Marathon.
The annual international AIMS Marathon Symposium was inaugurated in 2007 by AIMS, SEGAS, IAAF and the Municipality of Marathon, who hosted the event the last 6 years in the premises of the Historical Marathon Start Venue. The AIMS Marathon Symposium is staged with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization and co-organizer the Region of Attica.
